How do copper ions and silver ions kill bacteria?

Positively charged copper ions (Cu2+) in the water search for particles of negative polarity, such as microorganisms (e.g. bacteria, viruses, mold and algae)
Copper ions penetrate the cell wall of the microorganism creating an entrance for silver ions (Ag+).

Silver ions penetrate the core of the microorganism and bond to various parts of the cell of the microorganism, causing all life support system in the cell to be immobilized. This causes the microorganism to stop multiplying and eventually die.

How does Ion-metrix® releases copper ions and silver ions?

Ion-metrix® utilizes the Poly-metrix™ technology to release the active copper ions and silver ions.
Microscopically, Ion-metrix® is made up of polymers units linked by chemical bonds to form a honeycomb structure. This forms pocket-like spaces, which hold the active copper ions and silver ions.

Upon contact with condensate water, the polymers units and chemical bonds disintegrate. This process releases copper ions and silver ions from the pockets.
This process repeats itself until Ion-metrix® is entirely consumed.

This mechanism of controlled release has allowed Ion-metrix® to consistently keep the levels of copper and silver ions at 0.4 ppm and 0.04 ppm respectively for the entire duration of use of Ion-metrix®.
